But if you live in Sweden, especially in or nearby Gothenburg, you might be interested in visiting the Open Event I'm organizing on the16:th of October. Crocheting flowers making a Betsy

I've bought yarn from The Natural Dye Studio for my web shop so now I've started a crotchet project using their sock yarn called Nymph. I'm making Queenies Betsy Crochet Scarf (Ravelry link), the top picture shows the pattern and yarn. The pattern is easy to follow and it's the kind when you thin "only one more flower" all the time and then you suddenly realize that hours has passed. I love the yarn which is composed of British Blue Faced Leicester which is a soft wool, silk which makes it a bit shiny and cashmere.

I'm sorry that I haven't been writing here in a long time. I really have so much to write about, I just think that I will write about it "tomorrow".

Well, now I'm working hard to get my business going, I hope that I will be able to open my web shop next week. It's a lot more work than I had imagined, especially all the paperwork that needs to be done and posted back and forth a few times. Is it only here in Sweden we need to go through all this? Okay, maybe I've been doing it the hard way but when you haven't done it before, you do it the way that you can, and with a lot of help from family, friends and other people that just want to be nice! I've got a few new friends on the way so far, and I'm sure I'll get to know a lot of other nice persons as well.

So I've been knitting in the evenings as usual, the only difference is that I've used the same yarns that I will sell in my shop. Right now I'm blocking a cardigan that I've knitted in Manos del Uruguays Silk Blend. It's a lovely yarn made of merino and silk so it's both soft and a little shimmering which makes it look luxurious I think.

I've knitted some other things as well but this is the only picture I've got right now. I'll try to keep you updated. If you want to, you can follow me at Facebook, though it's mostly in Swedish you can still ask me questions in English and use Google translate for the things in Swedish, it usually translates texts in a way that they makes sense.

This past weekend I went to an island called Grötö and Stickfest i Väst (Knitting party in the West). I’ve tried to write about it but it’s hard to do it short enough to fit in a blog post so I’ll try to summarize:

Awesome people! Lots of them, I think more than 70 persons (mostly women though to be honest)

Knowledge! So many people that know so much and willingly share it with each other

Food! There was breakfast, lunch and dinner served, which meant I didn’t have to plan or prepare any food for a whole weekend! And coffee and tea whenever you wanted.

Cottages! We slept in cottages, I shared one with two of my friends.

I won lots of prizes; my favorites are the Malabrigo Lace that I won in the yarn lottery and a knitting bag made by Stickfrossa that I won in the competition The Fastest Knitter in the West.

The Fastest Knitter in the West-competition was really something else. Almost everybody participated and got prizes too! With 8 mm wooden needles and wool yarn that obviously was made for smaller needles. Ten people at the time knitted as much as they could for five minutes while the others were cheering like crazy around them and challenging them to do stuff like standing up, changing places, drink some wine and drop a needle. The winner was crazy fast! Her needles were blurry while she knitted. If she hadn’t hold on tightly to her needles it would have gone away like an arrow and somebody might have gotten badly hurt!

For a while now I’ve wished to learn how to do needle binding. I was talking to Ingrid Brundin and just happened to mention that and she immediately said she could teach me the first steps! She taught me one way to start and three different stitches so now I guess I’m hooked to this new technique too! One cannot have too many projects right? So now I’m needle binding my first pair of mittens, just by improvising.

Now that’s all I will write for now. Hope to post here more often but I can’t promise!

The candy I brought home

This Sunday I had invited some friends to my home to knit together. I had made some fika (coffee, tea, gingerbread, saffron bread and stuff) for us. Sandy brought some brie and dark chocolate for us, and also a present for me! She gave me some vanilla scented candles in a pretty little box, I really appreciated the gift. Thank you Sandy!

We were knitting, crocheting and one of us were doing some embroidering while we were chatting and having a great time.I started crocheting a pair of half mitts which I now almost have finished. I have to buy and add some buttons, nine for each mitt! I don’t know when I will be able to get into town and buy those.

Thank you girls for coming and visit! I’m planning to do this again soon!

This weekend I and my friend Lisa went to Örebro to visit a yarn exhibition. The reason for this is that I've decided to start a company on my own. I’m going to sell yarn here in Sweden and I’m trying to find nice yarn that is either ecological or fair trade. I will probably write more about this later.

A friend of mine turned 30 this Saturday and his girlfriend had organized a Star Wars and Matrix party for him. The same morning I decided to crochet a Yoda necklace for him. I improvised it and it took a couple of hours to make. This is how it turned out.

Elf shoes

This is a pair of Elf Shoes that I made from some waste yarn for my son. He's now 18 months old and has found out that he can take his shoes on by himself as long as they are big enough (like mommy's and daddy's) or more like boots so I made these a little bit too big for him. They are made of wool and felted in the washing machine.

Knitting event at Grötö

Yesterday I and my friend Lisa (who also is the one that brought me into the world of Yarn a couple of years ago) went to visit a knitting event at an island called Grötö outside the coast of Gothenburg. This event was a smaller version of SiV which is arranged every year in March at Grötö.

Lisa was supposed to pick me up around two but about 15 minutes before that she called and told me that her car had broken down! You have to go by ferry to the island and the ferry only leaves every second hour. She lives further away from where we were going than I do but we decided that I should pick her up instead and we hoped to make it in time for the ferry we were planning to go with anyway. Luckily we made it just in time and arrived at the event around three.

It was a lot of people there already and I believe most of them were staying the night. Me and Lisa had to go back home in the evening though. I sat down next to Sandy and on my other side there was a nice man with the same name as my son, Wilhelm. He taught me how to crochet a net and another way of making Tunisian stitches than those I already knew. That’s one of the greatest things of meeting with fellow yarn lovers, you can learn from each other.

I also met Slavi from Denmark who sells yarn on the internet. He had brought some yarn for sale with him to Grötö. I bought a couple of lovely skeins of Colinette JitterBug, the colorway Forest!We had a great afternoon and evening with people I had never met before, much laughter and inspiration for many new projects.

I got home about half past eleven and was really tired then. I really hope that I will make it to the real SiV in March!

Tunisian stitch felted bag

I just learned how to make the Tunisian stitch (in Swedish it's called krokning) and since I already had yarn enough to make a bag I improvised one. First Tunisian stitched the bag and saw it all together and then I tossed it into the washing machine (40˚C) along with a couple of towels and some soap instead of laundry detergents. This is a way of felting which I've used before when making tea cozies, slippers and a couple of other things. When I took it out I added buttons and filled the bag with stuff in plastic bags to get the shape I wanted. I think it turned out just the way I wanted it.

The first project I will show you here is a blanket I knitted for my friend Saras son Oscar. They live in London so I sent it there for him and as soon as he got it his mother sent me this lovely picture.

I’ve been blogging in Swedish for a couple of years and thought I’d try blogging in English. I’m starting this new blog for three reasons:

1. I want to have special blog to write about and show the things that I make with my hands.

2. I don’t write in English very often so I think this is good practice for me. So please feel free to comment when I repeatedly write something the wrong way or something doesn’t make sense because of the way I write.

3. I’m a Ravelry user and since most people at Ravelry don’t understand Swedish but do understand English it would be nice to have a blog connected to Ravelry that people there actually can read.

I hope to have time to write here often and share my projects and ideas with you out there but I will only write when I feel like it. I hope you will enjoy my blog!
